HP Products conducted an Equipment maintenance and repair training seminar on Tuesday May 4th from 9:00am till 2:30pm at their facility in Indianapolis. Involved with organizing and training were Dale McGinty, Al Kotarski, Tom Springer, Courtney Lewis, Matt Reynolds and Jim Luellen.

Participating from Team MJV were Coaches Roger Ford, Rod Sopczynski, Libby Luttrell, Ray Daniels, Glen McClure, Leonard Stewart, Phylis Frith and Stacy McBride.

Some of the topics discussed were vacuum cleaning and maintenance, filter changing, brush changing and minor repairs. We learned that vacuum filters can have extended life if vacuumed as needed saving us money.

Battery maintenance, charging, using distilled water to fill cells, cleaning posts and testing were also taught. We learned that keeping water levels is critical to maximize the life of a battery and you should always check the water level after every charge.

We also learned how to maintain floor scrubbers and keep them in good working condition. Squeegee blades have 4 sides that can be used before replacing. Keeping the solution filter cleaned out in the water line can help keep the lines from clogging. A quick and easy way to empty the cleaning solution in your scrubber after use is to use the vacuum hose on the scrubber. Scrubbers should always be stored with the pad drivers and squeegee assembly removed. Only fill scrubbers with enough cleaning solution to perform the task. Left over solution must be discarded and this is unnecessary waste.

Everyone attending learned several things to help us better maintain our equipment and prolong the life of our equipment. The instructors were very knowledgeable and helpful in answering all our questions. HP Products has offered to have another class for us this fall. Let your Operations Coach know if you would like to attend the next seminar.

Just thought we would pass on a new item we saw being installed at a building we are doing construction clean-up. There are mixed emotions about hand dryers versus paper towels in regards to sustainability and the janitorial service requirements. Is it “greener” or more environmental friendly to utilize the electricity for hand dryers OR put paper into landfills?

There is no paper towel holder and only the TOTO Hand Dryer.

What we like about it is how well they designed it to prevent water from being splashed on the wall while drying and it didn’t look bad. There is a tray under the unit that you can pull and dump excess water.

They don’t say it below but under specification it said it produce air at a rate of 224 “MPH” WOW! Not sure if it is heated air.

Here is what the Excel XL Hand dryer had to say about there unit. They cost about $500

Combination Motor and Blower: Series commutated, through-flow discharge, vacuum type; 5/8 HP, 20,000 RPM. Air flow rate: 19,000 linear feet per minute (97 meters per second) at air outlet, 16,000 linear feet per minute (81 meters per second) at average hand position of 4 inches (102 mm) below air outlet.

Heater: Nichrome wire element, mounted inside blower housing to be vandal proof.

Heater Safeguard: Automatic resetting thermostat to open when air flow is restricted and close when air flow is resumed.

Air Temperature: 135 degrees F (55 degrees C) measured at average hand position of 4 inches (102 mm) below air outlet. Air Heater Output: 900 watts.

      6. Renewal of GS-42 Green Seal Certification – Indiana’s first certified building service contractor.

      7. Expansion into Kentucky market
